PIN furniture system
PIN is an ecological furniture system designed with taking changing needs of contemporary society into consideration. Development and diversity of cheap and fast possibilities of transportation allow us to move freely from one place to another, what has a significant influence on our approach to buying, owning, and organizing physical goods. Furniture should not limit us, while it can become mobile along with us.

The system was made of natural materials - pine wood, calico and rope. Selected materials are renewable, sourced and processed locally in Poland. Standardised semi-finished products (squared timber and wooden dowel rods) are easily available in DIY stores and do not require running an additional production line. Due to eliminating any environmentally harmful substances from the design process and protecting the wood with natural oil only, the set is fully recyclable. The amount of used wood has been reduced by replacing the shelves with cotton calico. Strips of fabric have a utility function (they are a storage space), while being a construction feature – they help to stabilize the furniture. As a result, the furniture is lightweight, which also translates directly into ease of transport and safety of use, what is so sought after in today’s furniture. Disassembled set takes up very little space, so it can be transported in flat packages that will fit easily into a passenger car. Assembly does not require any additional tools – it is intuitive and involves putting elements together and tying the strings that regulate fabric’s tension.

The system is an economical solution that meets most of basic needs of home furnishings. Honesty coming from the use of raw, natural materials, a simple form and low production costs make PIN fit perfectly into contemporary design trends and postulates, especially at a time when ecology is not an additional feature but an obligatory condition. The furniture family can easily be expanded with more elements in the future. The project was designed by Ola Witaszczyk, Magda Pawelec and Konrad Dybicki.
